Test Taking Tips. 1.
Take good notes in class. Make sure you have all handouts and
assignments.
2.
Practice often and for short periods. Massed practice is
inferior to distributed practice.
3.
Read through source materials more than once. The first time
for general scope, the second time for content. The third time
for summary review.
4.
Form a study group. Share notes, compare ideas, make sure
nothing is missing.
5.
Get good nights sleep before the test, and leave the class
early so you don't have a last minute rush.
6.
Look over the test completely when you first get it to get an
idea of the scope.
7.
If it is a timed test, have a watch, or sit where you can see
a wall clock. Note the time the test will end, and check from
time to time to see that you are on schedule to finish.
8.
Answer the easy questions first. If you come to a question or
section that stumps you, leave them and go on the next
section. Then come back later and try them again.
9.
First instincts are usually correct - all other things being
equal, go with them.
10.
Be sure you read the question correctly. Do it slowly and
deliberately.
11.
Don't read things in to a question that aren't there. Go with
the simplest meanings.
12.
If there is no penalty for guessing, don't leave any question
unanswered.
13.
Even if there is a penalty for guessing, if you can eliminate
any choices, take a guess.
14.
Make certain you are marking your answers as directed.
15.
Spend the last few minutes of a test doing or redoing the
questions you are unsure of.
16.
Look for clues hidden in one question that will help you
answer another.
17.
On selecting type items, look for words that might give a clue
to the answer.
