Similar School Rankings released Madison receives the highest ranking of 10!

Back on May 22nd, 2008 the state of California released the annual similar school rankings.    This ranking compares school that are similar based on approximately a dozen criteria including student mobility, pupil ethnicity, parent education level, economic status of families, grade levels served, percentage of fully credentialed teachers, percentage of teachers who hold emergency credentials, percentage of of English learner students, average class size, percentage of students identified as gifted and talented, percentage of students with disabilities, percentage of reclassified fluent English-proficient students, and percent of migrant education students.

This ranking is arguably the most important measure of a schools success because it shows how each school does compared to the 100 schools within California that are closest in these criterion.    In other words this measure levels the playing field so that school are compared to only the 100 schools that are most like themselves.   Once the state determines which 100 schools of the 1265 middle schools in California are most similar to the school being ranked it then orders these schools based on their school's API.

Schools who rank in the bottom ten of the 100 similar schools receive a rank of 1, schools who rank 11-20 receive a rank of 2 on the similar schools scale.   This continues until schools whose API places them in the top ten similar schools out of 100 receive a rank of 10.

*Note these scores and above information is based on the results from the May 2008 CST scores.
